Savannah Scarborough
Aspiring Journalist
About Me
My name is Savannah Scarborough and I am currently a first-year student ambitious to major in Digital Media and Journalism at Pennsylvania State University's College of Communications program. I excel in creating journalistic pieces about arts, news, lifestyle, and sports, and I relish in producing creative freelance writing, graphic design, video editing, and social media marketing.

I began writing stories at a young age about anything and everything you can imagine; interviews, "days in my life", fairies, love stories, and so much more. Although, four years ago I indulged myself in the world of creative writing and journalism and found myself passionate for words and storytelling. Since then I have been advancing my skills. Some of my skills are but are not limited too, Adobe graphic design and video editing platforms and social media marketing and branding.

I have experience working within Penn State's Association of Women in Sports Media and CommRadio and have taken creative writing classes at The New York Times. I am currently a full-time student looking for an internship in fields including; journalism, advertising, social media marketing, publishing, and telecommunications.

Experience
October 2020 - March 2021 - Journalism Intern for Follow South Jersey
I was a journalism intenr for Follow South Jersey. I wrote weekly articles for twenty week surrounding community service events in the New Jersey Area.
Summer of 2020 - Senior Graduation Project
To fulfill a graduation requirement, I interviewed four professionals in the fields of sports journalism, broadcasting, marketing, and social media that included Debbie Antonelli, a college basketball analyst, and Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s “bracketologist.”
Summer of 2019 - New York Times Summer Academy
I applied and was accepted to the 2019 Summer Academy School of The New York Times in New York City to study creative writing. During this two-week program, professional writers and editors from New York City taught classes. This experience taught me how to adjust to a fast-paced writing environment with strict deadlines.
2016 - 2020 - Volunteer work at the Samaritin Inns
Throughout high school, I regularly visited the Samaritan Inns. The Samaritan Inns provides housing and recovery services for homeless individuals who suffer from drug and alcohol addictions. In my previous visits, I prepared and served dinner to the residents. The most fulfilling aspect of each visit was sitting down with the residents to enjoy dinner, prayers, and conversation together.
